Velé Muse: Ellie | Ethical Fashion Blogger
Ellie Hughes | Ethical Fashion Blogger
Meet Ellie: Ellie is an ethical fashion advocate residing in Portland, Oregon. By day, she runs marketing for Sseko Designs, and by night she works to make ethical fashion more attainable for consumers through her blog: Selflessly Styled.
Many times when we speak about Velé, people ask us what "ethical fashion" actually means. It's a fair question. In a world where we're encircled by so many buzz words, it's a breath of fresh air to hear voices like Ellie, who are genuinely pushing fashion to be more honest, kind, and loving towards our world – ethical. She is truly a Velé Muse, and we couldn't be more excited to share her encouragement with you!
How has a friend encouraged you lately?
The first thing that comes to mind is my sweet friend Maddi's texts. She continually reaches out to me with encouragement and little messages to cheer me on even though we don't see each other often these days. It's those little things that really add up, ya know?
What would you share with a friend who's struggling to know her self worth?
I think the first and most powerful thing to share is a sincere "Girl, I've BEEN THERE. I validate what you're feeling even though it is so far from the truth." While it's tempting to just throw compliments at a friend struggling with self-worth, I believe that empathy and vulnerability are more helpful options. I don't know a single person who hasn't struggled with their worth at some point in life, and I strive to remind my friends that their worth isn't something that's up for measurement on any scale. It is intrinsic to who they are as a human, regardless of how others make them feel.
"...Empathy and vulnerability are more helpful options."
