Meet Melanie: Melanie Loon is a writer and artist based in her native Los Angeles. Her work centers on communication, emotion and movement. She works as Editorial Assistant at Darling Media.

In celebration of International Women's Day, we wanted to highlight a dear friend who has supported us, both as an anchor of support, and a gust of wind beneath our wings in moments of doubt. We shouldn't have a fear to be vulnerable and we admire how Melanie creates open spaces of beauty, honesty, and acceptance with both her artistic work and everyday interactions. How has a friend encouraged you lately?

My friend Sylvia and I stayed up talking one night on a trip recently. We talked about how hard it can be to get to know new people and she told me she always felt when I asked her questions I really cared about what her answers would be. I love being her friend and count it a gift she opens up to me!

What would you share with a friend who's struggling to know her self worth?

Your worth and potential is so much deeper than how you feel right now and what you can do right now. This is just a moment, but the whole of your life is a miracle. You should be here. ❤️

I think about that for every time I regret how I’ve treated someone, to do better, and to not be scared to make the sometimes riskier choice of being nicer or more generous. Also, I look to it when I get wrapped up in achieving things, to remember, ‘Who cares? You need to be a person, and you need to be loving.’
